US 30 NEAR HANNA

US 30 NEAR HANNA, WYOMING - 1.5 Hours To Walk This Stretch

Checked out of La Bella Motel and drove to the rest stop of yesterday. Walked 1.5 hour toward Walcott & back. Then drove to Walcott (a single gas station), Parked the Van, and walked 20 miles...three miles beyond Hanna, Wyoming.

While toiling up one of those many hills, Ralph of Vancouver, Washington is on my Cell...Hanna, Wyoming, you say...Just a sec...OK got it...zooming in...OK, we are on live Satellite...WAVE.

You say MEDICINE BOW, Wyoming is next...Just a sec...OK, got it...Zooming in...OK, big white building...Zooming in...The VIRGINIAN HOTEL...Looks nice. Small talk and Ralph is gone. Kinda neat technology Google Earth...live search while walking hundreds of miles away.

Has returned to HOT. Terrain up here is hilly...one hill of about 6 miles. No excitement...makes for lousy reading, but has it's advantages. US 30 in these parts has little traffic. in 20 miles, perhaps a total of 15 vehicles went by. When I turned to hitch back, first vehicle by stopped for me. How lucky is that.

Returning to the Van, I drove to Medicine Bow. I had every intention to Park then, hitch back to Hanna, and walk the 20 miles back to Medicine Bow.

All the best plans never got a chance. Big White Building, THE VIRGINIAN HOTEL, there. dominating all else. I parked, walked in, and walking was ended for the day.

Internet service in Medicine Bow is NOT good. Rest of this Blog is Pics and Titles...ENJOY
SUPPLEMENTAL; August 05, 2010.
THE VIRGINIAN was built in 1909 by then Mayor GRIMM. He ran out of $$ near completion. Five local Ranchers put up the $$, completed THE VIRGINIAN and opened it for business. A sixth investor , a Mr. SCOTT, bought out the original five. Vernon Scott, present owner and Grandson of Mr. Scott, treated me to cocktails and Steak Dinner served in the Formal Dining Room.
THE VIRGINIAN was built as a tribute to local resident and writer, OWEN WISTeR, Author of the original book, THE VIRGINIAN (later a movie and TV Series). Owen Wister was personal friends with TEDDY ROOSEVELT, who is prominently featured. THE VIRGINIAN HOTEL is fully modern, updated to all the latest technologies and fully compliant with current laws and regulations. THE VIRGINIAN HOTEL is decorated and furnished throughout with original "Period" articles.
The food is prepared from scratch and delicious. No detail is left unattended (polishing the legs of EVERY chair !!!)
I have two times been honored guest in France (Alsace Lorraine and Lyon) by Five-Star Chefs. THE VIRGINIAN holds it own.
